Having struggled lately with early morning thoughts such as… ”What should I eat for breakfast” this time-saving solution had a significant positive effect on how to simply kick-start my day. Soon after, according to my new dietary habits and in an intensive attempt to introduce more nutritional products on my grocery list, I came across this plant-based milk, hemp milk, which immediately intrigued my curiosity to learn about it in details and certainly try it. If you are bold to new food adventures believe me it worth a shot!

When I first made the oats with tahini, chia and strawberries I was pretty skeptical about the final outcome. Initially I made it without the strawberries, only by combining oats, hemp milk, tahini and Greek honey. The result was super, but I was looking for something fresh and seasonal. Combining those five ingredients – well, six if you count the honey which to remind you is totally optional (hemp’s taste is sweet enough), you create a dense but rich texture literally with ease. It is so quick to make.

Over night’s gluten-free oat ingredients allows you to incorporate super foods loaded with lots of nutrients, antioxidants, rich in fiber, high in proteins and omega-3 fatty acids. The strawberries balance it’s taste naturally without adding any artificial sweeteners. Nevertheless, as mentioned above if you have a sweet tooth, make sure to add a tablespoon of raw honey or any other equivalents of your choice, including diet restrictions, like raw agave syrup, dried fruit puree, stevia,erythritol, xylitol, etc..

Anyway, this is not a sponsored post, I just wanted to share my thoughts and to be honest I really enjoyed eating it with various fresh fruit toppings each day, but looking back it was a good boost of energy reload throughout the first morning hours after the night’s sleep fast.

Serves: 1 – Your ingredients are:

  • 1 cup hemp milk overnight gluten free oats (your time-saving breakfast)
  • ½ cup gluten-free oats
  • 1 tablespoon Greek wholemeal tahini
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Greek raw honey (optional)
  • 2-3 drops of lemon juice
  • 1-2 fresh strawberries, organic

Instructions:

Make sure you have on hand those essential products (oats, chia, tahini, fresh fruits).

Pour the hemp’s milk into a small food storage glass preserving jar (with clip top vase canister). Add the gluten-free oats, chia seeds, honey and lemon juice. Stir well, cover and chill overnight or for at least 8 hours. The following day, top with freshly cut strawberries.

Pros of prepping the night before: 

  1. Easy digestion
  2. Best nutrient absorption (nutrient-rich breakfast)
  3. Flavor development

Pros & Benefits of eating breakfast:

  1. Hassle-free breakfast at home (it could be a grab-and-go option too)
  2. Allow yourself to feel less stressed before going to work (gain time)
  3. Not having thoughts such us ”What should I eat for breakfast?”
  4. Initiative for not skipping breakfast (you made it already, remember?)
  5. Improve concentration during the day (an empty stomach creates discomfort)
  6. Make in batches so you can enjoy it the following days

Acknowledge the value of hemp milk, but be aware of its side effects! The list:

  1. Excellent omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids’ source, perfect vegetarian protein, rich in soluble and un-soluble fiber which naturally cleanses the colon and reduces sugar craving
  2. Adding hemp milk to your diet does not mean you’re drinking rope or marijuana!
  3. Read package labels! I noticed that ready-made hemp milk contains less or no sugar and starches than any other plant-based milk such as almond, oat, rice, etc. So be careful of what you buy!
  4. It is cholesterol free
  5. Easy to digest
  6. Once the ”milk’s” package is open it goes bad after a few days, like regular dairy products, therefore it should be kept refrigerated (in particular, this brand was well-kept for more than 5 days and if you are more than one person who drinks hemp milk I assume it will be consumed in less than 5 days)
  7. It is pricier than dairy products
  8. It might be an issue if you take blood thinners or having cardiac related health concerns
  9. Even though hemp is a healthy food, it should be consumed in moderation.

Important note: Please consult with your doctor, or any other qualified health care professional before using any of the above mentioned products within this post, especially if you are taking medication!

  4. Wow hemp milk? I had no idea this product even existed, but it sounds really good, especially mixed into these overnight oats. I’ll admit, I’ve definitely asked myself the ”What should I eat for breakfast” question too many times before – but no longer! 😛
